Welcome, Michael, to UpKeep!!!

Ryan Chan

Welcoming Michael DeGothseir to the UpKeep family as our Product Designer!

We’re thrilled to have Michael DeGothseir joining our team this week as our Product Designer! Michael comes from a supply chain logistics company, and is an awesome addition to our Product team. We can’t wait to see how he tackles product design to make UpKeep even better for our end-users!

We’re excited to welcome you to the UpKeep family, Michael! Tell us a little about yourself.

I was born and raised in Philadelphia. I graduated from Penn State in 2013, and moved to Los Angeles two years later. I enjoy traveling to other countries, and checking out restaurants and concerts in LA.

How did you first get into Product Design?

I started as a product manager in the supply chain industry, but after working alongside some designers, I knew I wanted to make the jump. Product design is a lot of fun for me, but the process is also very humbling.

Why are you excited to join UpKeep?

Everyone here is kind, intelligent, and welcoming. Plus we’re solving meaningful problems!

What are your first thoughts about the culture and team so far?

The energy is very unique (in a great way). The entire team has been so helpful, and it’s obvious that everyone truly believes in the mission.

We have to know – what happened when you were face-to-face with a black bear?

I was walking down my friend’s driveway—and looking at my phone—late at night. I heard something, looked up, and a bear was about six feet in front of me. We made eye contact for a few seconds, but then my fight-or-flight response took over and I ran for my friend’s front door. I’m not sure if the bear tried to go after me, but he enjoyed my friend’s garbage cans. 🐻

And finally, perhaps most importantly, what would you be if you were a kitchen utensil?

An egg slicer.
