Welcoming Carl Matthews to the UpKeep family as a Customer Success Manager (CSM)!!

We’re thrilled to have Carl Matthews joining us this week as a CSM on our Customer Success team!!! Carl will be working directly with our mid-market accounts to ensure the best UpKeep experience possible! Welcome Carl!

We’re excited to welcome you to the UpKeep family, Carl! Tell us a little about yourself.

Hey everyone, my name is Carl and I’ll be a Customer Success Manager here at UpKeep! I’m originally from Denver, Colorado and I just recently relocated here to Los Angeles. I graduated from Colorado State University in the winter of 2017 with a bachelors in Economics and Business Management. While at CSU, I also played football!

Before Upkeep, I was working for another tech company as a Implementation Specialist where I was working with healthcare professionals to get their websites up and running. I also have a finance/banking background as well as some sales experience too!

In my spare time, I enjoy exploring Los Angeles and trying out all the unique food spots I find! I’m also an avid gym-goer and try to go at least 4-5 times a week!

How did you first get into Customer Success?

My first two jobs out of college were in both Finance and Sales. They both had a customer centered aspect that I really enjoyed and I wanted to find something that really revolved around the customer. After figuring out that I wanted to something with more of a customer focus, I began the search for something within CS. I eventually landed a job as an Implementation Specialist.

Why are you excited to join UpKeep?

I’m excited to join UpKeep because this is a new company that is growing extremely fast. UpKeep’s product is disrupting the market and is revolutionizing the way that maintenance workers are able to do their jobs. UpKeeps focus on the customer really caught my attention and made me that much more excited to join.

What are your first thoughts about the culture and team so far?

My first thoughts on the culture and team here at UpKeep is that everyone is extremely welcoming and nice. I’ve also noticed that everyone here is motivated and hardworking.

We have to know – tell us more about collecting sneakers! When did you start? What is your favorite pair that you own?

Up until 2016, I was never huge into sneakers and had the same 3 pairs in my rotation at all times. As a matter of fact, I never wore anything else besides Vans, Converse and Nike trainers. During Christmas that year, my sister gifted me a pair of Space Jam 11’s. That shoe was really what ignited the flame for me. I’ve always had an interest in shoes, but I never could pull them off so I stuck with what I was comfortable wearing.

After that Christmas, I started buying shoes like crazy and before I knew it, I had well over 60 pairs. I also started doing more research about sneakers and found out that I could actually make a decent amount of cash flipping pairs so during my downtime in college I found myself actively browsing Facebook sneaker groups, Craigslist listings, visiting sneaker stores in different cities, even camping out for some of the more coveted releases (once waited in line for 8 hours) just to turn a profit or add to my collection.

Since moving to California, I’ve had to downsize my collection quite a bit but I do plan to grow it again once I can get a larger room. My favorite pair right now would have to be the Off White Blazer just because it’s classic silhouette with a modern twist (if that makes sense). I’ve also wanted a pair of blazers growing up, so when I heard of the release I did everything I could to get my hands on a pair.

And finally, most importantly, what would you be if you were a kitchen utensil?

I would definitely be a Spork just because it’s one of the more versatile kitchen utensils to have!

Welcome, Carl!!!
