How to Add Assets
At the end of the day, an asset is just something that generates revenue for your business. Assets are typically static and are physical. Assets can be anything from apartment units to physical equipment. Anything that you’d like to associate a work order to.
UpKeep is the central location for all your asset information. Upload additional resource files like manuals or schematics, view work orders completed on the asset, view updates from your team, and more.
[tip]Depending on the business type you chose during setup, Assets can have a different name. They can be called “Units”, “Equipment”, “Vehicles” or “Assets”. [/tip]
We have two levels on the Asset hierarchy. This includes our Parent Asset and our Child-Asset. Child assets are components of the Parent asset where you may be completing work on or maintaining as well. Your assets may qualify as a child asset if your parent asset does not function without that asset.
Add Individual Assets
Within UpKeep, they can be assigned to locations and each asset can have a 2 layer hierarchy of asset and sub-asset (or parent and child asset).
- Navigate to the Assets section
- Click on + Asset
- Give it a name, take a picture, add a barcode, and other information you need for your asset
- Finally, once your information is entered, click Submit or Save!
[tip] If you are adding a Child Asset, select the Parent Asset from the drop-down list in that field. Keep in mind you’ll need to first have your Parent Assets added already! [tip]
