Welcome to UpKeep — Eric Walker
Welcoming Eric Walker to the UpKeep Family!
We’re so excited to welcome Eric to the team this week! Eric is joining us as our Product Manager, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on board! Here is our interview with him!
We’re excited to welcome you to the UpKeep family today, Eric! Tell us a little about yourself!
I was born and raised in Orange County, California. After graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Construction Management, I spent a few years in the construction industry. I eventually made my way to Procore where I spent some time as a QA Engineer prior to my Product role there. Outside of work, I’m a lover of all things food, dogs, travel, and sports.
How did you first get into Product?
I had done numerous startup competitions in college and naturally gravitated towards the Product role. When I worked at Procore as a QA, I knew that I wanted to be in Product but wanted to first spend some time working with development teams and build out my technical knowledge. One day, our squad’s Product Manager unexpectedly quit and I stepped in to fill her role. The rest is history!
Why are you excited to join UpKeep?
The people and the product. UpKeep has one of the best cultures that I’ve seen at a company to date. It clearly showed in the interview process and made the decision very easy to come here. I also think UpKeep’s growth as a product is just getting started. The company is very well positioned to continue to be the industry leader for an incredibly underserved market. There’s a huge opportunity to make a big impact here!
What are your first thoughts about the culture and team so far?
Incredible. It’s very difficult and rare to have a company full of employees that are not only a true pleasure to work with, but that truly care about the industry they serve. I think UpKeep absolutely nails this. Everyone I’ve met here so far has been fantastic and seems to genuinely care about their customers which inspires confidence about the future of this company.
Eric, you mentioned your favorite show is the Office. If you had to watch one episode on repeat for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?
Definitely Stress Relief. That’s the episode where Dwight starts a fire drill, Angela’s cat gets thrown into the ceiling, and the whole team takes a CPR class. I’ve seen that episode at least 10 times already and it’s still just as funny. I honestly think if I had to watch this episode every day for the rest of my life, it’d still be funny.
Finally, and most importantly, what would you be if you were a kitchen utensil?
I think I’d be a spatula. There is literally no particular reason aside from the fact that I just really like using spatulas when I cook. They’re really practical and it’s fun flipping food with them. I even use spatulas when I cook things that don’t require a spatula, like stirring pasta…
